Weekly email · New York City food & drink

Reach new NYC restaurants and bars before your competitors do.

Every week we send a clean list of new food and drink businesses in New York City: restaurants that just applied for a health permit and bars, restaurants and shops that were just issued a liquor license. With name, address, borough and status, plus a phone number where the public record has one.

We use your email only to send your sample issue and occasional FirstDayList updates. We never sell it. Unsubscribe anytime.

How it works

A new restaurant or bar needs insurance, a payment system, payroll and suppliers before it opens. Be the first in their inbox.

1

We pull the records

Every week we compile new NYC health-permit applications and new New York State liquor licenses from public records, then clean and de-duplicate them.

2

We screen the list

We take out temporary permits, add-on bar licenses, wholesalers and obvious chains, so the list is new independent businesses.

3

You get a weekly list

One email every week with the new businesses, newest first, ready to contact. We are starting with NYC food and drink; other industries and areas come later.

Questions

Where does the data come from?

Two public government datasets: NYC Department of Health restaurant permit records (new establishments that have applied for a permit but have not been inspected yet) and New York State Liquor Authority license records (licenses newly issued in the five boroughs). We clean, de-duplicate and screen them so you don't have to.

Does it include phone numbers or emails?

Phone numbers: sometimes. Health-permit records include the phone number the applicant gave on the application, and almost all new ones have one. That is a contact number for the applicant, often the owner's cell, and it may not match the business's public listing, which usually does not exist until it opens. Liquor license records have no phone number, only the name and address. We do not provide email addresses.

What is the difference between "permit applied" and "license issued"?

"Permit applied" means a restaurant has applied for a NYC health permit and is not yet open or inspected. It is the earliest public sign of a new business, and it comes with a phone number. "License issued" means New York State has issued a liquor license. It is later in the process and has no phone number, but the license is confirmed.

How much does it cost?

Early access is free. We'll introduce simple paid plans later and tell you first.

Can I choose my area?

For now every issue covers all five boroughs, and each row shows its borough. Borough filters and other industries are planned. Tell us what you need when you sign up.
